Enjoy Bagels Even on a Diet: What’s Their Secret? | Orange Fitness, Kai City, Yamanashi

Hello, everyone! I hope you are spending a lively, smiling day.

Do you like bagels? I love them, and I eat them nearly every week. Today I’ll talk about my favorite food, bagels.

Many of you are dieting, and for those who want to value “satisfaction” and “nutritional balance” even while dieting, bagels are getting attention. The first reason their popularity is rising in today’s health-minded climate is that calories are easy to adjust. Bagels often have less fat than other breads, the calories per meal are clear, and it’s easy to avoid overeating. For example, one standard plain bagel (about 90 g) is roughly 240–270 kcal in supermarkets and typical packaged products.

The second reason is a texture that satisfies. A bagel’s chewy texture encourages chewing and makes it easier to feel full. This “chewy” texture comes from kneading the dough thoroughly, boiling it and then baking it. Boiling increases the density of the dough and gives it a firm, springy bite. This springy texture makes you feel full more easily. Bagels are also denser than other breads, so they take longer to digest. That keeps you satisfied in your stomach for a long time and makes post-meal hunger less noticeable. Slower digestion lengthens the time until you feel hungry, so the feeling of fullness lasts.

The third reason is that when choosing a bagel on a diet, you can pick healthier options such as “whole wheat” or “low-GI (glycemic index)” bagels. These hold down a sudden rise in blood sugar, which makes them suitable for dieting.

When you add bagels to your diet, avoid high-calorie cream cheese and butter and choose healthy toppings such as avocado or cottage cheese. Bagels with nuts or chocolate kneaded in tend to be high in calories, so choose the lower-calorie ones where you can. Size matters too. Large bagels have more calories, so pick smaller ones. Even though they’re good for dieting, be careful not to overeat, and enjoy a sensible portion.

Bagels are a food that can combine “satisfaction” and “nutrition” even on a diet. Choosing wisely and enjoying a sensible portion is the key to dieting success. Why not add a bagel to your next meal?

Today is the youngest day of your life. I hope it is a wonderful day for you all!
