Gym Beginner FAQ: Answers to the Questions You’re Afraid to Ask

Hello, this is the owner of Orange Fitness, a gym in Kai City, Yamanashi.
“I’d like to join a gym, but I’m such a beginner that I’m anxious…” “Is it OK to ask something like this?” Do you have worries like these?
At Orange Fitness in Kai City, Yamanashi, we have worked with a great many people new to the gym. In this post we answer the typical questions and worries we hear most often.
Q1: What should I wear?
A: Comfortable T-shirts or sweats are fine. You don’t need special workout wear, but you’ll sweat, so quick-dry fabric is best. Please also bring indoor training shoes. Any shoes with clean soles are OK.
Q2: What if I don’t know how to use a machine?
A: Don’t worry. At Orange Fitness, staff are always on the floor. Even if it’s your first time at a gym, we’ll explain how to use the machines carefully. We support each person so you can start safely and without strain, as many times as you like, at no extra charge.
Q3: How often should I train?
A: For gym beginners, two to three times a week is ideal. You may get sore at first, but your body gradually gets used to it. You don’t have to go every day. Keeping it up is what counts. If you’re busy, a schedule you can manage is fine.
Q4: Are there gym manners?
A: Yes. Following a few basic manners lets everyone use the gym comfortably. For example, wipe the machine down with a towel when you finish, and take turns. Staff are always watching over the floor, so ask if you’re unsure.
Q5: How long until I see results?
A: It varies by person, but some people feel changes in their body from about a month. In the first few weeks especially, make building the exercise habit your goal. Strength gains and weight loss will come steadily as you keep going.
Q6: I’m self-conscious about other members…
A: Everyone is nervous at first, but people of all ages and goals train at Orange Fitness. Everyone works out at their own pace, so there’s no need to worry about those around you. If you feel uneasy, talk to the staff.
How was that? Even questions you might hesitate to ask are worries that many people at a gym have felt. At Orange Fitness in Kai City, Yamanashi, we give solid support so anyone can start with confidence.
